Discovery of the Titanic/Exploring the Greatest of All Lost Ships
Published in Hardcover by Outlet (May, 1990)
Author: Robert D. Ballard
Average review score:

A MUST HAVE for any avid TITANIC researcher
I purchased this marvellous book on the 88th aniversary of the sinking of Titanic. I am about half way into the book and can honestly say that I can't put it down. This book is a must have for any Titanic buff (like me). This book not only comes with a gripping tale of the authors quest for the Titanic, but it also is illustrated with marvellous pictures, and colour pictures and diagrams by the world renowned Titanic artist Ken Marshall. I can honestly say that this book is one of my favourites out of my Titanic collection.

Absolutely gripping, with spectacular photos of the ship.
Beautiful pictures of the ship before and after the tragedy. Plus a comprehensive history of the ship and it's passengers, that doesn't stop at the sinking. An excellent buy!

Doing It for Ourselves: Success Stories of African-American Women in Business

Rejuvinating the soul
I purchased this book at a local book store in the West End Mall in Atlanta Georgia. I literally travelled with this book for weeks reading a page here and a page there until I was assigned a book report for one of my MBA classes. I found this book to be more than interesting. Its one of those books you dont lend out and always keep around on your shelf. I thoroughly enjoy reading about successful black women their accomplishments and contributions to society and their advancement in the corporate world. I am one of those professional women who have a burning desire to succeed and advance in my career and after reading the interviews and experiences of some of our very own I was deeply inspired. This book has helped me regain my self confidence and motivation. Its a book I highly recommend to all of my friends to read. I thank the author for inspiring me to continue my journey for success.

Pages upon pages of inspiration!
After reading Donna Ballard's book, I felt compelled to write her. I thanked her for producing such a fine body of work and for profiling 24 young black women who are suceeding in male dominated corporate America. Anybody who needs a touch of inspiration should read Donna's book; it certainly encouraged me to focus on my goals and aspirations. After receiving my letter, Donna called to thank me for taking the time to tell her how much I appreciated her efforts. Not only is she a fantastic author, she is also a wonderful person.

Explorations: My Quest for Adventure and Discovery Under the Sea
Published in Hardcover by Hyperion (April, 1995)
Authors: Robert D., Ph.D. Ballard and Malcolm McConnell
Average review score:

Like you're there!
This book, which documents Robert Ballard's professional life up to the time of publication, is truly a work of wonder. It is written to where it makes you feel like you're there with them, giving firsthand accounts of Ballard's bathyscaphe incidents, the politics of academia, the discovery of Titanic, the loss and recovery of Hugo and Jason, and the discovery of the Bismarck. An incredible publication, indeed.

Exciting, first hand look at modern day explorations.
Mr Ballard is probably best known for his work in locating the wreck of the Titanic and all the press that event was given. He well deserves the rave reviews for his work but he also proves to be a very readable, clear, intelligent writer. The tales of finding underwater thermal springs and the unique life forms that live in them is fascinating. I was extremely sorry to finish this book and will keep an eye open for any new book he may publish. He is on my "must read" list of authors.

Footprint Namibia Handbook : The Travel Guide
Published in Paperback by Footprint (August, 1999)
Author: Sebastian Ballard
Average review score:

Fabulous country, great guidebook
I usually buy Lonely Planet guides but have been getting bored with their formulaic structure so I thought I'd give Footprint a try. On the whole, I thought the guide was quite well-written. I also liked the organization of the book (better than Lonely Planet) -- beginning with a brief overview of the regions, highlights and possible itineraries, following with essential information and regional listings and ending with the background info (history, culture, wildlife) that you can read after the rush to organize a trip or while you're on the road.

The information is ample, there are many maps throughout with impressive amounts of detail, and it's a reasonable size and is durable and well-bound. The only drawback is the limited number of photos... but Namibia is so gorgeous, you'll have plenty of your own!

Extremely useful guide to tour this magnificient country wit
The Namibia handbook is a very useful, up-to-date travelguide, giving you all the necessary information. The size is ideal for backpackers and the hardback prevents the book from damaging. All hotels, restaurants, camp-sites, safari-companies etc. are mentioned, together with their telephone-numbers and if available, a short description based on travel experiences by earlier readers of the book.

From Jerusalem to Gaza: An Old Testament Theology
Published in Paperback by Smyth & Helwys Pub (01 March, 2002)
Authors: B. Donald Keyser and H. Wayne Ballard
Average review score:

A Well Developed Theology of Major OT Themes
This book is worth reading. Dr. Keyser and Dr. Ballard bring a wealth of insight and scholarship to this rich text. One of the book's major strenghts is the unbiased approach brought to this discussion of OT Theology. The scholarship is evident, and the authors navigate the reader through a large portion of the most important testimony ever written.

A Review of: "From Jerusalem to Gaza"
From Jerusalem to Gaza is an extremely special book. I don't say this because I am a student of the co-author (though it does help), but because it is such an apt guide on the theologies found in Old Testament literature. Both authors are very learned scholars in Old Testament studies and have a lot to offer from an intellectual standpoint, but there is a familiarity felt when reading the book as if the writer were sitting next to you explaining his views and convictions based on his knowledge. The titling of the book could not possibly be more fitting. Based on a paradigm passage of Peter and the Ethiopian Eunuch, the book lives up to its title, covering the boundaries and beliefs of those in Jerusalem (the Israelite center of worship), Gaza (one of the five Philistine city-states), and everywhere in between. Additionally, because the book is such an easy read, it would appeal to a Biblical Scholar or a simple lay person trying to get a grasp on the God of the Old Testament. In more ways than one, the title speaks of the overall goal and spirit of the book.
Dr. Ballard and Dr. Keyser make it a point to contribute a chapter in From Jerusalem to Gaza to each of the main theological issues that are addressed in the Old Testament. Each chapter begins as the book does, with a "paradigm passage" that directly addresses the issue at hand and will be examined to draw information about that issue. The book begins with more broad topics such as the Israelite God YHWH and His relationship with the inhabitants of the Earth, and moves toward topics that would entice those who are in all ways striving for a closer relationship with Him, such as the way He expects us to live our lives. As the book progresses into the second half, it is filled with such beneficial advice and encouragement (for both the Christian and Jewish reader) that it could almost be read strictly as a devotional piece. The warmth in which the book was written transfers to the reader and he cannot help but to be convicted and challenged to seek more diligently to live according to the way God has commanded us to live.
One thing about this book that jumps out at the reader is the tendency of the authors not to be timid in addressing things that would cause discomfort among many readers. Dr. Ballard and Dr. Keyser admit that some of the things found in the Hebrew Bible are a bit fuzzy and clearly wish to get to the bottom of the questions that arise when reading the text. For every subject that arises in the conversation on any topic, the authors are faithful to provide differing views of the Old Testament scholars who have addressed that particular topic. As a matter of fact, much of the book is made up of various quotes from the books of well-known scholars in the field of Old Testament study such as Robert L. Cate and Robin Cover. This lets the reader know that the authors have done their homework not only on the text, but other scholarly applications of the text. Though the authors usually state which view they support, the reader would be hard pressed to find any bias or preconceived notions in the thoughts of the authors, seeing as the authors provide ample space for the reader to examine each of the angles represented and come up with his own view of the text. To take it a step further, there are many times in the book where the author will recommend resources to those "readers who would like to pursue more" information on the topic being discussed. They also will give you their own take on the book, citing whether or not the book is easy reading or should be reserved for one with a firm grasp on Old Testament Scholarship.
I would recommend this book to anyone with a desire to dig deeper into the theological issues addressed in the Old Testament. I'm certain that the aim of Dr. Ballard and Dr. Keyser is to make this book so rich in scholarship that the Biblical scholar will appreciate it, so full of important information that the college student will value it, and so full of warmth and sincerity that the devotional reader will cherish it. If so, then the goal has been accomplished. This book would be beneficial to anyone, no matter where they are on the journey of religious liberty... from Jerusalem to Gaza.

Haunting Love
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (June, 2002)
Author: Sharron Ballard
Average review score:

great first try!!!!
This is a wonderfully developed story for the first writing of a gifted Romance/Mystery author. The story immerses you into the characters and their plights. It brings an exciting twist to the plot line and still gives you a straight forward path to follow.
You leave this book, wanting more!!!
Where's the next one at?!

Haunting Love
Sharron Ballard's writing skills were fresh. I loved the book and her characters. I felt as if I were watching a movie and would really love to see it as a movie. I think Sharron could be another Danielle Steele or Nora Roberts. I hope she will continue to write. I am looking forward to her next book.

Once again Ms. Ballard delivers!
Ms. Ballard is proving herself to be the new Romance Queen of the new Millennium. Her new novel, His Brother's Child heats up from the start and just continues to build that sexual tension until the explosive end.

Ms. Ballard debuted her delicious writing style in her first novel, Wanted: One Groom and next came Nobody's Perfect. His Brother's Child continues her sizzling romance scenes and tantalizing sexual tension. My recommendation is buy the book, find a comfortable place to read and ENJOY because you won't be able to put it down!

Hunter's Horn
Published in Paperback by Michigan State Univ Pr (January, 1998)
Authors: Harriette Louisa Simpson Arnow and Sandra Ballard
Average review score:

The Great American Novel of the 20th Century!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Set in rural Kentucky around WWII, this book is so good, it should replace Huckelberry Finn as "the great american novel". It is ashamed that it isn't better known, but unfortunately Arnow-Simpson is thought of as a regional writer. This is a very deep book, but it also has some very funny parts. Her description of pre-consumerism country life is very detailed and insightful. She saw how the world was changing, and captured a piece of it that is now long gone. I'm not even an hunting type, and I wanted to go out and get a couple of hounds after reading this. Better even than The Dollmaker, and not half as sad. Highly Recommended!

Strong characters and detailed descriptions of Ky people
This book captures the spirit, character, and complexities of the mountain people of eastern Kentucky better than any other I have read. The individuals are simple, strong-willed, and proud like many of the people I grew up with. The descriptions of the landscape are detailed, accurate, and compelling as I remember them. For anyone interested in a better understanding of the depth of human character explained in a very readable way, this is a terrific book

I Used To Be the Baby
Published in Hardcover by Greenwillow (April, 2002)
Author: Robin Ballard
Average review score:

A positive portrayal of sibling relations
In "I Used to Be the Baby," by Robin Ballard, a young boy describes life with his baby brother. The book combines friendly, colorful illustrations with an easy-to-read text. Sample text: "I used to be the baby, but now I am big. I have a baby brother, and I help Mommy take care of him."

The text and illustrations show the narrator doing many activities with his baby brother: playing with him, singing to him during a car ride, reading to him from a baby board book, etc. This is a sweet, charming book that shows a positive picture of an older brother interacting with a baby sibling. I really liked the cartoony pictures.

totally charming
The harried mother in the background is delightful, fun for an adult to notice, while the foreground action is what's going on between the "big boy" and his baby brother - feeding the hungry baby toast & jam (and the look on the mother's face) was priceless. Another in this series of must-haves for the nursery-school book shelf.

Our Search for Happiness
Published in Paperback by Deseret Books (September, 2001)
Author: M. Russell Ballard
Average review score:

Great Book
I loved this book, it is such a great introduction to the beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I've read through it several times and had my children read it as well. I recently bought several copies for friends who I felt would benefit from it as well.

This book has also become part of the standard missionary library, the only books (other than the scriptures) that a full-time missionary from the LDS church is supposed to keep with them.

This book is Monumental!
I bought this book because I was searching for the truth about the beliefs held in the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints; and because I felt in my heart that The Lord Wanted me to become a sister within the church. I have gone through times in my life when I thought that God didn't really notice me...Needless to say these were very dark and depressing times. Reading this book, however, convinced me that nothing could be further from the truth! God loves each and every one of us, he loves us even in times when we don't feel we are worthy to even live on this earth. This book truly helped me with my own search for happiness! It helped me to find my spiritual home while restoring my bond with the Lord back to the unfaltering power it had in my youth prior to my trials as an adolescent, as well as building up my once non-existant self esteem. You need not worry that the facts stated in this book are inaccurate because it is by one of the members of the Quaram of The Twelve Apostles who is a Latter-Day Saint born and raised! I highly recoomend this book to anyone looking to learn more about the Lord & his plan for the salvation of our souls! Even if this book doesn't lead you to become a member of the church; I am quite positive it will change your outlook on life!
